LOCATION: Mont Albert, Victoria
CLIENT: Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA)
(LXRP) In early 2023, Cycon Civil Group successfully completed the transformative project of removing the level crossings at Union Road, Surrey Hills, and Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert. These crossings were among Melbourne’s most dangerous and congested, with the Union Road crossing being the site of a tragic incident in 2016 that resulted in two fatalities and at least eight near misses since 2005.
The project involved lowering the rail line into a 1.3km trench, significantly easing congestion and enhancing safety. This innovative rail trench design allows for more frequent train services, with an additional three services stopping at Union Station during weekday morning and afternoon peaks.
CYCON SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDED:
Trunk Drainage Installation: Over 2km of drainage, featuring 1800mm RCP pipes and in-situ pits.
Bulk Excavation Works: Moving over 210,000 BCM of material during rail occupation.
Track Drainage and Railway Formation: Installation of over 8km of track drainage, railway formation, and capping.
Cycon Civil Group is proud to contribute to the improvement of Melbourne’s rail network, enhancing safety and efficiency for all commuters.
